This
is the Wiimote connected to the
analog stick 'nunchuck'. They're
wireless other than the cable
that connects them together.
Powered by 2 AA batteries, up to
60 hours of usage is possible.
To
maintain backwards compatibility
with older consoles the Wii also
comes with a classic style
gamepad. Further good news is
the Wii also has sockets to
connect a standard Gamecube
controller, which is the most
comfortable controller I've
experienced so far.
In addition to the standard Wii
remote that comes with the
Nintendo Wii console, you can
get a slew of add-on accessories
to make your Wii game playing
much more fun. The Wii Wheel,
which was released with Mario
Kart, just snaps in your Wii
remote so you can drive through
racing games like you would a
normal car.
The Wii makes rocking out to
music games fun and convenient.
You can wail on the extremely
stylish Gibson Les Paul wireless
controller while playing Guitar
Hero III, or use the Max-V
Guitar. Rock Band is a blast
with the wireless Guitar and
Drum Kit. The Logitech USB
Microphone is essential for
singing/karaoke games.
For
those with an itchy trigger
finger, the Wii Zapper is the
perfect hardware for playing
shooting games like Raving
Rabbits and House of the Dead.
It also comes with Link's
Crossbow Training game. The Kama
Wireless Nunchuck makes all
games using the nunchuck
controller much more convenient,
as it ditches the bothersome
wire between it and the Wii
remote.
As anyone who's purchased the
Nintendo Wii already knows, Wii
Sports is just about the funnest
game available on the Wii. Who
knew such a simple sports game
would end up being the most
in-demand game at parties and
family gatherings? To make the
tennis, golf, and baseball games
more enjoyable and realistic,
get the Nerf Sports Pack. The
Wii is also great for aerobic,
strength training, yoga, and
balance games offered by the Wii
Fit balance board.
Engadget has reported that
Nintendo recently filed patents
for a slew of other Wii
accessories, including a Wii
bicycle, Wii skateboard, Wii
fishing pole, and Wii teddy
bear. While some of these may be
bogus, others are sure to be the
next great Wii accessory!
As
its name suggests, the news
channel gives you access to
the news. Using an Internet
connection it will display
the latest headlines for you
to browse. Selecting one
will bring up the
appropriate news article for
you to read.
The
innovative Mii software
allows you to create little
caricature versions of
people. These people can be
customised extensively, with
varying height, weight,
hairstyles, colors,
accessories and facial
features. Your people are
then stored on the Wiimote's
built-in memory and included
in certain games like Wii
Sports, essentially putting
you in the game!
The
photo channel allows you to
load in pictures taken with
your digital camera via the
SD memory card slot. It can
display a maximum of
approximately 1,000 photos.
Many fun options exist which
allow you to doodle or add
effects to your photos or
any frame of a video clip.
The file formats supported
are JPGs of up to 8192x8192
for photos, and QuickTime
videos of up to 848x480.
A
special version of Opera has
been developed to allow Wii
users to browse the web on
their TV sets using the
Wiimote. Rumors exist that
the Opera software will be
free to download within the
first 6 months of the Wii's
life, this is not yet
confirmed.
On
the shopping channel you'll
be able to download your
favorite classic Nintendo
games to play on the Virtual
Console. Purchases are made
using a points system,
whereby a 1000 points is
roughly equivalent to a
dollar.
Like
its name suggests,
"Everybody Votes" lets you
(and anyone else who has a
Mii on your console) to vote
on polls. New polls are
posted every few days and
have 2 answers to choose
from, for example "If you
were a time traveler - Would
you go to the past or the
future?". You can also cast
a prediction on which option
will be most popular.
Results are updated after a
week or so, and you can see
fun statistics based on
nationality and gender.
This
is another Mii-oriented
channel for entertainment
and community building.
Users can browse a wide
selection of Miis based on
famous people, characters or
themes and download them
into their own systems.
There's also a biweekly
contest where you can submit
your own Miis.
The
Nintendo Channel will keep
you up to date on the latest
news for Wii and DS games,
with interviews,
documentaries and
downloadable demos for DS
titles.
